Dear Saints,
As Advent draws to a close this weekend, I am reflecting on how wide-ranging our emotional state has been over these past few weeks.
The expectant anticipation of Advent gave way to the joy of a good medical report for one of our members, which then gave way to anguish and concern from surgery complications, which then gave way to joy again in our reception into the Episcopal Church (check out some of the photos if you missed them), while we continue to keep watch in prayer for those we love who are vulnerable right now.
I invite you to continue this journey of meeting God in our messy reality:
- Tonight’s Longest Night service (7pm), where we make space for and recognize the loneliness and sorrow that often accompanies this time of year.
- Sunday’s 4th Sunday of Advent worship service (10:30am), where we will hear good news of the call of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
- Sunday’s Christmas Eve worship service (4pm), where we will celebrate the Incarnation together (with candles!).
I pray that you will have grace this Advent to simply be, right where you really are, knowing that God is closer to you than your own breath, even when you cannot perceive it. May you find the strength you need to do what love requires in this moment. Blessed Advent and Merry Christmas, sisters and brothers!
Grace and peace,
Fr. Ben
