| Greetings, Church! I’ve got a quick update for you on our stewardship campaign for the coming year. So far, we have received 22 pledges for for a total of $130,890 which is 47% of our goal of $277,000. That’s a great start, fam! Talking about money in church can be a difficult thing. Many of us come from churches that leveraged fear and shame to get us to give, and those old icky feelings can come online whenever money is mentioned in church, even in a church you want to be part of! Perhaps you’ve experienced that over the last few weeks as we’ve been talking about this stewardship campaign. In an effort to avoid such triggering, it’d be easy to just not talk about money in church, but for a variety of reasons, we believe it’s better to talk plainly and graciously about how our church community works, and money is part of that. Logan mentioned this past Sunday that the money we choose to share impacts our common life together in practical ways. When we give to a charity, we give our money to an outside organization that does some kind of charitable work we think is important. That’s all well and good, but when we donate to the church, we are actually sharing with each other for the good of the whole worshiping community. It’s part of how we participate in material, embodied solidarity with each other as Christ’s Body. There’s still a lot to discern and do for The Table to grow into the full stature of Christ in our new new neighborhood and building, but I cannot think of anyone I’d rather be doing this with than y’all. I am profoundly grateful for all of you, your work that comes from faith, your effort that comes from love, and your perseverance that comes from hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the presence of our God and Father. If you haven’t had a chance to make a pledge yet, please prayerfully consider how you’d like to steward your resources in the coming year for the good of our common life and mission together. |
| Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. And check out the Giving FAQ page for a bit about how we think about these things at The Table. Grace and peace, Fr. Matt P.S. Don’t forget to make your pledge by November 2nd (All Saints’ Sunday). And mark your calendars now for our after church potluck that day so we can feast together and go over a congregational project we are working on for next year! |
