Dear kin in Christ,
I said in my sermon this past Sunday that, because of the Incarnation, we can “see in the dark.” I was trying to get across the reality of the light and hope the gospel gives us; that even though we can clearly see the “thick darkness” that still covers the earth, we are also empowered to see the deeper, stronger, more substantial reality of God’s grace at work in and around us every day, drawing us together as members of one another and working to renew all things.
To that end, I wanted to share a brief article from musician Nick Cave’s email newsletter, where he answers questions from fans. I found his most recent issue to be deeply wise and profoundly Christian (although Cave doesn’t necessarily espouse traditional Christian belief). I hope you’ll take 2 minutes to read through it: “2025 is coming. The world seems to be in such a catastrophic state. Where is the hope? What is hope?“
May this Epiphany season be enlightening and surprisingly hopeful for us!
In Christ,
Fr. Ben
