(A brief message from Leah McMichael, The Table’s “Lorax”)
We’re finally planting our Sacred Forest!
As many of you know, the grant funds for this project were illegally frozen by executive order early this January. In response, the granting organization Faith in Place sued the administration and did everything they could to release these funds for distribution to communities like ours. This summer, they were able to secure some of the money, and we received 25% of our initial grant award.
We’re going to plant more trees than we first bargained for.
Though we’ve had to scale back some aspects of this project, we’re still going to start with a Climate Courage and Creation Care class at 9am on Sunday, September 28th. Then—thanks to generosity from our congregation and volunteers—we’ll be planting trees on October 4th from 11:30am-3:30pm. If digging holes and carrying water isn’t your thing, please come anyway! We’re going to have food, music, art projects and pet blessings.
There haven’t been a lot of wins since he-who-must-not-be-named took office. Let’s celebrate this victory with all due defiance.
See you in the forest!
