Beloved,
This has been an eventful week. Anticipation and build-up to this presidential election was years in the making. For many reasons, it has been an anxiety inducing election cycle. On Tuesday, Election Day finally arrived and by late that night we knew the results. Donald Trump will be returning to the White House in January.
Our work as God’s people working and praying for justice was always going to continue on, but there is no need to pretend that our work now will be the same as it would have been if the results were different. It may be different work than you had hoped and prayed for, but I promise you that this work will carry on.
Before we put our heads down and dive into the work, I want to encourage you to care for yourself and love yourself well. Here are a couple of practical ways we can do that:
- Take inventory of how you’re feeling — notice what’s coming online for you.
- Share those feelings with people you can trust to hold space and care well for you. This could be at Table Group or at church or elsewhere. If you’re not sure who to share it with, please reach out to Ben, Matt, or myself.
- Meet with a Counselor/Therapist.
The work continues, yes, but the work today is different than it was last week. You don’t have to rush into it or have it all figured out right now. Don’t rush past how you are feeling, but be present to it so that the God who is always present and at work can meet you in it.
You are not alone, friends. You are loved by God and by many.
Go in peace today, to love and care for yourself tenderly. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Spencer+
