Blessed Eastertide, Church!
The season of Easter has begun! It helps me that the weather is cooperating this year: our warm-up corresponds with the season of Easter conveniently.
Easter isn’t just a day; it’s a season that lasts 50 days! Lenting well is best followed by Eastering well. 🙂
Here are some ways to participate in the 50 days of Easter:
- Easter is about forgiveness and new life. Spend time daily affirming the reality of forgiveness and reconciliation to God.
- I like to sit on my back porch and simply notice the signs of new life: budding trees, busy birds, even little insects buzzing around my face. And in my back yard I get to watch my dog, Jovie, spot and talk to bunnies who have resumed their activity underneath our arborvitaes out back. Take some time to sit outside and breathe deeply, taking in the sights and sounds and smells of new life.
- New life includes our bodies: what discipline or rhythm of body care can you create to honor the life in your body? For me: taking walks a few times a day. With or without my dog. To simply detach from screens and demands and pray and enjoy God’s creation.
- Another way to celebrate Eastertide is to get into the new Bible study on Acts that’s starting in Fountain Square (more info here) or Fr. Ben’s Sunday morning class on learning to use the Book of Common Prayer (more info here).
Let us lay hold of the joy and hope of the resurrection this Eastertide together. Even as we endure small nights of longing and despair, let us take time to bask in the Great Morning of Christ’s resurrection. Let us receive the life that is ours in Christ together.
Rejoicing with you,
Fr. Matt
