Church,
This past Sunday we talked about how New Creation, the eternal life to which we are called, is about God’s presence and power at work in our world. This is why we tend to and enter into Kairos moments: to discover how God’s future wants to break into our present.
This involves standing against those ideologies and stories that trade on our fear and anxiety like the Replacement Theory that animates mass shootings and newscasts and political campaigns.
Contending for the Kingdom involves “Yeses” and “Noes”. We are learning together how to move by the Spirit, in love, for the sake of those people who long for deliverance and new life.
This Summer
The Vestry has approved a mini-sabbatical for me starting June 1 and running through the end of July. I will still be around (coming to Sunday Eucharist without clericals when I’m in town), I hope to receive this gift of time to rest and recreate a bit.
I’m so grateful for the ways the leadership of our church looks after its clergy.
May I ask for your prayer? Here’s what I’d love prayer for:
- Generative times of silence and solitude. I’m looking into planning a week away if I can make family schedules work.
- Sleep. Please pray for lots of delicious sleep!
- Renewed sense of calling and direction for this next season of The Table.
- Fun: I kinda stink at letting myself have fun and I’m committed to finding joy in the midst of this brief time away.
Look forward to being with you in an official capacity again in August.
In God’s grace,
Fr. Matt
