Dear Church,
2023 is upon us! And we are in the season of Epiphany, a time of illumination and instruction where we learn from Christ how to walk in the light of truth. My question for us at this time is:
What teaching or instruction from God can you receive as good news today?
For me, it is the fact that God is doing a good work in and through and around me even when I can’t see it; even when it feels like it’s not happening.
The weather here in central Indiana is a good picture of this: the shortest day of the year was Dec 21st which means we are 3 weeks into the lengthening of daylight. But it doesn’t feel like that. Cold and darkness seem just as deep as they were 3 weeks ago. But I know this isn’t true. The day is lengthening, the light is brightening and the darkness cannot overcome it.
So I need the light of hope in this dark, cold January. I need to consent to God’s love, offering my fear and scarcity in the presence of God’s abundant goodness.
Here’s some stuff to look forward to in the next few weeks.
1. We continue with Table 101 this Sunday, Jan 15th, as Fr. Spencer leads us. If you missed the first week and want to listen to the conversation, email me (matt@thetableindy.org) and I’ll send you the audio from our time together.
2. We are doing another round of our “College of Preachers” this month. Lay people from The Table are working in community together along with the Rectors to preach the next 3 upcoming Sundays. Praying for Josie, Laura, and Alissa as they prepare and excited to hear good news from them!
3. Put the All Church meeting on your calendar if you haven’t already: Sunday Feb 5th at 9am. You won’t want to miss it.
Holding our Church in prayer this week as we seek the Light of Christ together!
In Christ,
Fr. Matt
