Church!
As we wind down October and head into election season and then holiday season, I wanted to offer some reminders and invitations to prepare our hearts and minds for action in what is sure to be a full and challenging season:
- You can catch up on what we covered in our Faith & Politics Class by checking out the recordings. Our work in how to advocate for the common/public good begins here at The Table with how we organize and hold our common resources together. Which leads me to my second point…
- Our stewardship campaign is actually a political act: we are planning ahead to take seriously how to steward our resources together. This is one way we “get political” together. If you haven’t done so yet, you can make your pledge here. What are some other ways to “get political” you may be wondering? Well that leads me to this next bit…
- Don’t miss our Loving Yourself Through Grief Workshop happening this Saturday morning Nov 2, 9am-12pm in the Parish Hall. At our last Faith & Politics class we discussed how our bodies are political instruments: how who we are, what we carry, the agency and dominion we take (or don’t take) over our bodies are acts the impact how we love our neighbor and love ourselves. Please register for the workshop, which will help us know how many to expect. And finally…
- Our next 9am Sunday morning class will run Nov 10, 17, and 24. Lee Little will lead us through a history of our Episcopal diocese! He’s the author of the book Changing Mission, Unchanging Faith: Episcopalians and Influence in Indianapolis and will lead us through three weeks of exploring the history of our diocese, our new building, and why that’s significant for us today. I’m so excited for Lee to share his scholarship with us so don’t miss it!
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov 5th. Ben and Spencer and I plan to spend the day at our church in prayer for our country, a safe and secure election, and a peaceful transfer of power. If you’d like to pray or join us feel free to stop by the building anytime between 8a and 4p that day. The sanctuary will be open for silent prayer, and we will be available to pray with you if you’d like. We’ll have more to say and do as Christians once we see the outcome and responses to the election.
Until then, remember that God’s love holds us and everything together.
Your Priest, for Christ’s sake,
Fr. Matt
