The following is a poem written by Marissa Crawford, after our Holy Saturday Story Night Vigil. We thank her for sharing it with us!
What does it mean to trust?
When the world has been thrown into chaos?
When the only thing that makes sense
is ripped away like a rug?
What does it mean to trust? What does it mean to rest?
When the world around is spinning?
When fear and anxiety
are the universal language?
What does it mean to rest? What does it mean to wait?
When the world is grasping for answers?
When having anything to say is
better than an honest “I. Don’t. Know.”?
What does it mean to wait? What did the disciples do on Saturday?
When the one they trusted was ripped away?
When their tradition told them to wait and rest
even though all they wanted was answers?
What did the disciples do on Saturday? What if you are calling us to trust. rest. wait.?
When we want to claw for control.
When we feel like if we don’t do something
the world will crash around us.
What if you are calling us to trust. rest. wait.?What if it is Saturday?
Marissa Crawford, April 2020
When you are making all things new.
When you are kicking at the darkness
until the light shines through.
What if it is Saturday?

Thank you for sharing this poem. I’m writing a talk around Holy Saturday and unanswered prayer – and this is beautifully helpful.
