Our Vestry has two main functions: first, it oversees the finances and property of the church; the Vestry are the legal representatives of The Table. Second, it provides big-picture discernment and direction, in cooperation with the Rectors. We try to discern and surrender to what God is doing in our midst, stewarding our resources in the logic of God’s kingdom. Vestry members serve 3 year terms.
We have one new Vestry Member this year: Ken Racke, who is coming on as our new Treasurer.
Ken grew up on the Southside of Chicago and has a background in environmental sciences. He is married to Sharon and they have three adult children and three grandchildren.
Ken and Sharon are also interested in Renovaré, founded by Richard Foster, and have been involved in small spiritual formation groups, leading them to appreciate what God has done and is doing through the six streams/traditions that Renovaré talks about.
Ken and Sharon first visited The Table in February 2020, right before COVID hit. When they checked back in a few months later, they were pleased to see The Table was still meeting and finding ways to be the church. They were also attracted to the fact that The Table was incorporated into the larger church.
Ken appreciated the Table’s commitment to moving through the pandemic one way or another, and appreciates shared/team leadership, liturgy, and practical good news. DNA Groups have been transformational for he and Sharon, who formed and led a Table Group for a season last year.
Ken served for eight years on the Board of Directors for Hope Seeds International. He served as secretary of the board most of that time and has witnessed how the treasurer position works, which helped Ken prepare for his role on The Table’s Vestry.
The Vestry member cycling off this year is Sean Tienhaara (who needed to step back from Vestry responsibilities in August 2022 due to life circumstances that demanded more of his time and energy).
