Church,
In what has felt like the longest year (and counting), COVID-19 has created so many opportunities to feel isolated and alienated from community. We have not been able to be together in the way that we would like to be for DNA groups, Table groups, or Sunday worship. Celebrations for birthdays and graduations have felt muted. Great losses and pain have been suffered without the typical support of a community physically present. Even now as the vaccine rollout is under way and more folks are fully vaccinated each day, things are not what we want them to be. We are still navigating the mess that is life amidst a pandemic!
When Jesus revealed himself to his disciples in John 20, they were hunkered down and hiding out in fear for their lives, unsure of what to do next. Right in the midst of their fear and uncertainty, Jesus appeared to them to comfort and commission them. He met them in the midst of the mess they were in! That is exactly where he is meeting us today, friends. Right where we’re really at!
What is it that tempts you to believe you don’t belong or that you don’t have what it takes?
- Are you and the people you most want to be with approaching COVID precautions differently?
- Are you overwhelmed after a season of focusing on racism and repentance and unsure of what to do next?
- Do you feel ill-equipped or unqualified for what you feel like God is calling you into?
Jesus is meeting you where you’re really at today! Locked doors, distance, or disagreement won’t stop him. He is comforting and commissioning you. He has given you all that you need to be resurrection people! What would it look like to trust that you have all that you need to belong today?
Resurrection is happening all around you today, friends! In the midst of the chaos and confusion of life, God is with you and he is welcoming you into true communion. May you rest in the peace and walk in the power of resurrection today!
