Our next church-wide class is called Discipleship in the Streets (more information below), and it will meet on Zoom Thursday nights at 7pm ET for 8 weeks, starting May 8 (through June 26). This is a joint class with Gravity Commons and The Table, and you can register at Gravity’s site to join us.
“Thoughts and prayers” has become a common Christian trope in a world wracked with tragedies and crisis. We know how to talk to God about the bad stuff, but often we don’t know what to do about the bad stuff. So we’re going to focus on what to do as the people of God in response to our growing political and social upheaval.
How do we oppose injustice personally and corporately? How do we talk and relate to those who disagree with us or are causing harm? And how do we not simply react to wrongdoing but foment something good and beautiful and true together? Adapting trainings from the anti-authoritarian organization Choose Democracy, we’ll look at how Jesus navigated difference and opposition as a model for our own response.
We’ll meet weekly on Thursdays at 7pm ET (May 8 – June 26) on Zoom for discussion, training, planning, and debriefing experiments we’ll undertake between meetings. This is a joint class with Gravity Commons and The Table. Register at Gravity’s site to join us.
