Beloved sisters and brothers in Christ,
This past Sunday we were reminded that it is STILL Christmas, and we were invited to consent to the joy of Christmas – the joy of knowing that God has drawn near to us in the Incarnation of Jesus, and is healing and restoring us from the inside out now as one of us.
Because of the union of Christ’s humanity and divinity, and his ascension to fill all things, Jesus is more intimately present to us than he was with his disciples, or even his own mother! God is with us, beloved, and we have been reborn as children of God, radically connected, now and forever, to each other and God and all creation. This IS salvation, and it is ours!
Here are a few ways to consent to the joy of Christmas and participate in the life of our community coming up:
- Chalk your door on Epiphany! Thursday January 6 is the Feast of Epiphany, and we’ve been engaging in this fun tradition for the past few years. Full instructions are here at this link, and blessed chalk and liturgy sheets are available in a box on the porch outside the front doors at the church building (3535 Kessler Blvd E Dr).
- Plan to attend our All-Church Meeting on Jan 23. We’ll meet Sunday January 23 from 9:30am-10:45am in the Fellowship Hall at Spirit of Joy Church to discuss the details of our upcoming move to Broadway UMC in February and answer questions about it, as well as share some of the longer-term ideas, relationships, and opportunities we have for worship and mission as a church.
Christmastide blessings, beloved!
In Christ,
Fr. Ben
