Church,
This past Sunday we had the joy of celebrating Emmy Jo Crawford’s baptism together. It was so lovely to celebrate an in-person baptism together for the first time in over a year!
I was not raised in a church that celebrated infant baptism, so Emmy’s baptism was a refreshing reminder to me of something that I love about our Anglican tradition. In infant baptism, we celebrate and bear witness to a belonging that precedes believing! After the year we have just had, it was a welcome reminder that our ability to relate to one another is not decided merely by our ability to agree with one another!
In Baptism we celebrate a belonging that not only precedes belief, but that transcends agreement. As we stood together this past Sunday and committed ourselves to Christian fellowship with Emmy, I felt an imagination growing within me for how to relate to those whom I disagree with – something that I’ve found especially hard over the past year as political allegiances, unjust systems, and differences in priorities in general have increasingly been revealed by COVID. This past Sunday, I felt myself invited into a fierce commitment to move towards others in love – grace and truth.
This is the way of belonging that God is calling us into at The Table. Our call to commune together around the Lord’s Table each Sunday isn’t contingent on complete agreement. Instead, with our differences and disagreements in full view, God faithfully re-members us as Christ’s body around his table!
As we continue to navigate Covid-tide and new updates from the CDC, we’ll also be updating our protocols as we learn more information. In light of the updated guidelines from the CDC and the local government we will be altering our protocols. Starting this Sunday:
- We will worship indoors every Sunday, unless otherwise announced.
- Masks will no longer be required for fully vaccinated individuals. We ask that all un-vaccinated individuals over the age of 2 continue to wear a mask.
- Social distancing will no longer be required; however, please feel free to reserve a few seats around yourself if you would like some space.
- Kids ministry will resume this Sunday and will be provided as frequently as we are able to staff the necessary classes – please reach out to Ryan(ryan@thetableindy.org) or Andrea (andrea@thetableindy.org) if you would like to volunteer.
We look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday. Friends, you are invited to bring your whole self, where you’re really at, to the Lord’s table this Sunday. You are invited into a belonging that transcends disagreement and difference!
Peace,
Fr. Spencer
