This summer we are pausing our DNA (discipleship) groups and convening an Summer Course on Sunday mornings called The Table 101. It’s basically adult catechesis, which is a fancy word for “instruction” or “education,” usually to prepare someone for confirmation.
In The Table 101, we’ll talk through what it means to be part of The Table, what it means to be Anglican, how we practice worship, mission, and discipleship as part of the larger church, etc.
We’re encouraging all adults to participate, and we’d like to have childcare available so all adults can participate. So please RSVP and let us know if you plan to attend so we can sort out childcare.
It’s really important to let us know if you plan to attend! Think and pray about this as a family and let us know what you’re thinking.
There are a lot of good reasons to participate in The Table 101, but 3 specific things you may want to consider:
- Confirmation. Our Bishop (Todd Hunter) will be visiting us this fall sometime, and he’ll be doing confirmations (they’re not just for teenagers). So one reason to participate in Adult Catechesis is that you might want to be confirmed as an Anglican! (What is confirmation? Basically, in confirmation God strengthens the work of the Holy Spirit in you to increase in your Christian life and ministry. It’s a good thing 🙂
- Membership. We are moving toward creating a more “official” way of belonging together as a community. Maybe you have baggage with the word “membership,” but think of membership at The Table as a “rule of life” we try to live out together, or a set of commitments we make to one another. Many of you are doing this “unofficially” already, but we are thinking about formalizing these commitments this fall sometime.
- Leadership. Part of getting more organized as a church involves appointing a “Vestry” this fall. Vestry is a fancy Anglican word that refers to a group of leaders who help protect the vision and implement the practices of our church, as well as help oversee finances and administration, etc. We want everyone serving on the Vestry to have gone through Adult Catechesis.
So now that you have some vision about why we’re doing The Table 101, here are the details:
The Table 101: Adult Catechesis
June 3 – August 5 (10 weeks)
We’ll have an outline of what we’re covering soon, but please feel free to ask questions if you have them!
