Dear siblings in Christ,
Fr. Matt and I have been at the 81st General Convention of The Episcopal Church all week, and one of the most consequential items on the agenda this year was the election of a new Presiding Bishop, who will serve a 9-year term.
Yesterday Sean Rowe, a 49-year-old bishop from western Pennsylvania, became the youngest person ever elected as Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. I was in the room when his election was confirmed, and there was a lot of excitement and positive energy about it. The consensus among the people I’ve talked to seems to be that he is the right person for the job. I encourage you to read more about our new Presiding Bishop (see here and here and here), and keep him, and The Episcopal Church as a whole, in your prayers.
We’ve had a good week here connecting with new people in The Episcopal Church, talking about spiritual formation and discipleship and mission, and seeing a bit of how our church works “under the good.” It’s also been a tiring week! Fr. Matt and I are looking forward to being home later today, and being with you all for worship this Sunday.
Grace and peace,
Fr. Ben
