Dear Church,
With Thanksgiving this week, it often flies under the radar that this Sunday is the First Sunday of Advent, the beginning of a new church year! Advent is a season of longing, expectation, and hope. We turn our hearts toward the second coming of Christ, even as we anticipate the celebration of Christmas. I hope you can join us for worship.
Also, this Sunday we’ll be doing an Instructed Eucharist, which means that we will be teaching and explaining parts of the liturgy as we do them. Have you ever wondered why we worship the way we do, using the gestures and symbols and words that we do? An Instructed Eucharist is a wonderful way to learn and then immediately participate in what you’ve just learned! Again, I hope you can join us for worship this Sunday.
We’ll also be implementing a few “new-to-us” elements in our liturgy, including a baptismal font at the entrance to the sanctuary, and a more intentional offertory.
Oh, and one more thing: during Advent in our kids ministry, we will be experimenting with an experiential, story-based curriculum/process called Godly Play.
This Sunday is also the final day to pledge toward our giving campaign for 2020. If you haven’t pledged yet, take some time this week to think and pray about how you’d like to partner with The Table in 2020. You can make your pledge online or fill out a pledge card and place it in the offering this Sunday.
I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving, and that you can join us this Sunday for the Church’s New Year’s Day!
Grace and peace,
Fr. Ben
